ACCESS STATEMENT FOR WILLOW SPRINGS BED AND BREAKFAST THE HAM DURRINGTON SALISBURY WILTSHIRE ENGLAND SP4 8HW

 Introduction:  we aim to cater where possible for the needs of all visitors to our home based (single storey-no stairs) Bed and Breakfast (2 Guest Rooms).  We are situated in ¾ acre of garden which is approximately 30 feet from the River (Avon) The following statement is a summary of our provision.  If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.

Pre-Arrival

• Durrington is a large Village and has a varied bus service.  We are pleased to supply bus timetable information by return call prior to your stay or send you links to the local providers webpage(s).  We can also assist Guests once they have booked in

• For Taxi’s we can supply local firm’s telephone numbers on request over the telephone.  We can also assist guests once they have booked in.  The ‘Useful Numbers’ page in the room guest file lists taxi providers

• Information listing a cross section of places to eat lunch, tea/supper are also included in the Guest File/we can supply on request in hard copy

• Willow Springs will accept payment by Credit or Debit Card but due to high charges prefers payment by cash or UK Cheque (with guarantee card).  Written bills/receipts are provided.  If you need cash there are several ATM machines located in the village.

• By a 1972 law, guests are required to complete a simple registration form on arrival.

• Children under 10 cannot be accommodated at Willow Springs due to the close proximity of the river. Children in any case must be supervised by parents at all times and parents are entirely responsible for their behaviour; we reserve the right to ask any badly behaving guest to leave the premises without refund if necessary.   

• We regret that we cannot accommodate pets however Assistance Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement but must be kept on a lead at all times due to the wildlife which settles in the garden.  The proprietors also have a (rescued) Dog from a local Animal Charity.

Arrival & Car parking Facilities

• We are situated at the Junction of 3 roads at the river end of Durrington Village (The Ham, Church Street and Bulford Road).  The property is a very distinctive large detached Chalet Bungalow with an unusual low pitched roof.  The front garden to the road, is open plan

• On arrival we have a curved drive with a double garage next to the Bungalow.  There is sufficient parking for the proprietors and guests.  Where there is space in front of a garage guests may use it.  There are no marked bays. It is flanked by flower beds on all sides

• The surface is level made of composite tarmac

• There is a movement-activated security light over the double garage (the garages are not available for guests for cars, however may be used to lock-up motorbikes and pushbikes)

• There is a movement-activated greeting lamp on the front door step

• Movement-activated lighting bollards are also installed on the curve of the front drive/near the flower beds

• For Guests with limited mobility we can offer parking approximately 10 feet  from the front door, and will assist with carrying overnight bags.

 Main Entrance & Reception

• The front door has one step 18cm high and 1.5 metre wide.  Front door is 75 cm wide

• On entry into the Bungalow the hallway is ‘L shaped’ with a width of 1.7 metres and length of 3.66 & 4.2 metres

• There is a bookcase on the right of the hall entrance, a coat-rack and small airing cupboard on the left.  There are pictures lining the walls of the hall and vases at the end of the corridor.

• Hall is fitted with 2 hard-wired Smoke Alarms which are tested monthly.  A multi-purpose fire extinguisher is held in the Hall airing cupboard and is signposted.

 Public Areas-Dining/lounge Facilities (Internal)

• Guests have access to their own Dining Room and Snug. This area is 2.5 metres x 2-7 metres and accessible off of the hall with a 75 cm doorway (see Dining Area).  A fire Blanket is situated in the Kitchen (not accessible to Guests).  The Snug is available outside of breakfast times for guests who may wish to consume their own purchased  food for lunch or supper, from local shop(s).  Crockery etc can be provided.

• Guests are given separate tables.  Both tables have 4 legs rather than a pedestal, and an underspace of 69 cm.  We have 4 x 4 legged dining chairs with arms.  The chairs are of chrome and wood and have upholstered cushion/seats.

• The room also contains one 3 seater sofa and a sideboard.

• A large print version of the Breakfast menu is available on request

• We do not play background music in any area of the B&B. 

• Special Diets:  in order to avoid disappointment for guests, special diets need to be discussed with the proprietors at least 48 hours prior to a stay  however Vegetarian catering is always available. Factory farmed products are never used.  Foods are sourced locally wherever possible.  With 48 hours advance notice the proprietors can provide up to the level of a strict Vegan breakfast menu (containing no abattoir or dairy products).  We cannot offer Kosher diets.  Additionally we cannot guarantee any dish we serve to be free from potential allergens, for example dairy products, nuts, citrus and so forth.

Public areas (WC)

• None.  Both Guest Rooms have their own En Suite Bathrooms.  The third bathroom is for the private use of the proprietors.

 Laundry

• We do not have a guest utility room but are pleased to offer guests washing facilities/ use of the drying area for a small additional charge

 Shops/facilities

 ·         Durrington currently has 2 Public Houses: The Plough Bulford Road (01980 652047) and the Stonehenge Inn Stonehenge Road (01980 655205) they are very much country pubs-so it is a good idea to ring ahead and check food availability.  There is also an Indian Restaurant, the Emperor of India Bulford Road.  Please see the reference section at the rear of the Guest Room folder when you arrive, for menu’s.  Guests may also wish to purchase light snacks from our 3 local supermarkets for consumption as a ‘picnic’.

 Other  village facilities: Durrington has a beautiful Norman era (CofE) Church, a Swimming Pool and Keep Fit Centre, a Co-op, a Tesco and Sainsbury’s Local, plus several Hairdressers, a Pharmacy, a Garage (petrol and repairs) and a Newsagent’s/Off Licence.  If you need Cash there are currently ATM machines located outside of Sainsbury’s in High Street or at Tesco Local in Bulford Road

Guest folders in the rooms detail more information on the local area.  We will also use the internet to assist guests on request

 Bedrooms and EnSuite Bathrooms:

Bedroom(1) Pearl Suite. 

·         Twin Beds.  (with Mayers Deluxe thick Memory Foam Divans/Mattresses) can be pushed together to make a King Size (but will retain respective single bed linens (Duvet,2 pillows and sheet(s).  Beds are 76 cm high.  Additional blankets are available in the wardrobes

·         There are 2 tub style chairs and an occasional table with pedestal.

·         The dresser is fixed to the wall and doubles as a desk and is 83 cm with 63 cm clearance underneath.  The dresser has a horizontal full length mirror.  Tea Tray is placed on this surface.

·         There are 2 Bedside cabinets size 54 cm high each with a bedside lamp (with low energy bulbs (an additional  reading lamp will also be provided on the Dresser).  One cabinet has an electric clock radio and a hairdryer within. If guests are using hair straighteners or any other high risk electrical appliance there is a cooling mat in this cabinet which must be used

·         There is a built in wardrobe 97 cm high and 2 metres wide, the lowest internal shelf is 70 cm high.  Coathangers are provided

·         There is a 3 drawer chest 76 cm high in front of the beds on which is placed the TV.

·         There is a full length wall mounted vertical mirror adjacent to the Dresser

·         Fitted short pile carpet

·         Room has a Large sliding patio door with tracked, lined curtains, and for optional additional privacy a voile curtain.  These doors must be locked at night and during Guests absences.  Ventilation is achievable via the bathroom window.

·         There are 4 pairs of power sockets and 1 TV socket in the room

·         Wireless Access to the www is available free via plugs which can be used in 3 pin-sockets.  These are available on request

·         Collapsible racks are provided for the unpacking of suitcases and bags

·         Bedroom is fitted with a hard-wired Smoke Alarm which is tested monthly.  Fire escape advisory notices are situated on the reverse of the bedroom doors

·         Towels and bed linens are of course changed between guests.  But during a stay will only be changed daily for residents on request

 En Suite Bathroom:

 ·         Door width 75 cm.  Door has to open inwards to floor space of

      2 metres x 1.5 metres therefore not large enough for wheelchair   access

·         The Independent thermostatically controlled Shower is combined in with the bath-there is no floor level shower-the bath being 55 cm high.  A rubber non slip mat is provided.  A stand-alone safety rail to assist access into the bath and a bath stool can be requested prior to a guest’s arrival.

·         The pedestal wash basin is 82 cm high

·         The toilet is 28 cm high, next to the internal wall and has a left side transfer with available space between it and the end of the bath panel of 35 cm.  Front transfer space is 60 cm.  Paper roll is situated to the right of the pan when in use.

·         There is a small selection of toiletries free to guests; there are hygienic sanitary towel disposal bag dispensers/lidded bins in all bathrooms.

·         Bathroom has a clear glass window at 1.5 metres high with side opening window.  Obscured by venetian Blind

·         Bathroom is fitted with recessed lighting and automatic extractor fan

·         The Bathroom mirror is fitted with a light (but not a shaver point-converter plugs are available

·         2 rubber /nylon bath mats are advised for use on the floor if it becomes wet.

Bedroom(2) Alan Suite.

·         Shower is combined in with the bath. The (Whirlpool) bath is 49 cm high.  A health a safety notice is clearly displayed for its correct use.

·         The Independent thermostatically controlled Shower is combined in with the bath-there is no floor level shower-the bath being 55 cm high.  A rubber non slip mat is provided. 

·         The pedestal wash basin is 82 cm high

·         The toilet is 28 cm high and next to the external wall and has a front transfer with available space between it and the side of the bath 30 cm.  Paper roll is situated to the right of the pan when in use.

·         There is a small selection of toiletries free to guests; there are hygienic sanitary towel disposal bag dispensers/lidded bins in all bathrooms.

·         Bathroom is fitted with recessed lighting and automatic extractor fan

·         The Bathroom mirror is fitted with a light (but not a shaver point-converter plugs are available.

·         Bathroom has a full sized window onto the Ham side of the Building obscured with a Venetian Blind

Kitchen: 

• No guest access

 Additional Information:

• All wall light switches are placed at 1.44 metres high, power sockets at 43 cm high

• Some Mobile phone networks struggle to obtain a signal inside the bungalow-use outside is generally satisfactory.

• There is free guest access to the Internet but due to the imposition of the Digital Economy Bill a disclaimer now has to be signed by all guests before passwords are issued.  Increased  security is also fitted to the IT system.

• Fire Escape and procedure is clearly explained on the reverse of all Guest Rooms’ doors.  Fire escapes are marked.  Site of fire fighting equipment signed

• Willow springs has a no smoking policy indoors-however there is a safe designated area outside for smoking. The sand disposal bin must always be used

• Takeaway food must not be consumed in the Guest Rooms.

• The Proprietor (Herself a fully qualified and professionally bonded Holistic Therapist) also offers Complimentary Therapies: Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Sports Massage (and hair removal)  - it is always advisable to make an appointment

• A High quality Workplace First Aid Kit is held in the Kitchen NB the proprietor is not first aid trained or medically qualified.

• The proprietor/Willow Springs is the holder of a Food Hygiene Certificate level 2.

 The Proprietors (private) living quarters:

• Are situated inside the Bungalow adjacent to the Guest Rooms.  If there is an emergency during the night they are easily accessible

• A counter-top bell is provided in the main hall if service is required during the day. 

The hotel proprietors Act 1956 is pursuant on this establishment details of which can be accessed in full through proprietary UK Government Website(s)/using most search engines.  This law details the limit of our liability for any theft and damage of guests property.

 Outdoor facilities/Garden

The Bungalow is situated on the banks of the River Avon in a SSSI, Conservation Area and Area of Special Archaeological Interest. It has unique hand cut Purbeck Stone patio areas which are extensive throughout the ¾ acre site (mixed with lawn).  The rear garden is tiered on 3 levels.  All rear accesses have steps down to the first tier; which leads on to further extensive tiered areas built in the same material.  There are steps between tiers, and one steep, short ramp (designed for wheelbarrows).  In Summer, there are 2 sun loungers on the lawn and 2 sets of iron garden furniture for guests use.  There is a futher step down 2 small sets of steps.  The Purbeck Stone Patio(s) are made of hand cut Jurassic Period Stone, many with unique fossils and having been in place for 43 years with mortar which cannot be drilled or cut safely to incorporate additions to their structure.  The Bungalow has never been flooded but has been given a level 2 flood risk assessment by the Environment Agency. 

Due to existing Bylaws guests cannot use Boats from the riverbank, however they can swim or paddle at their own risk but must wear old shoes.  The river is accessible from a jetty (50 cm high).

For fishing, proprietors have automatic riparian rights to fish, however guests must obtain a Rod License and have it available for checking.  Strict SDDFA Fishing rules are also applied to anyone fishing from all local Riverbanks.  Our chickens are housed at the rear of the left side of the garden (there is no noisy Cockrel!)
